Artistry awarded
Managing Director of Huia Publishers, Robyn Bargh, became a Companion of the NZ Order of Merit (CNZM) for services to the publishing and the Maori language, while contemporary painter, Piera McArthur and recently retired Chief Executive of the NZ Symphony Orchestra, Peter Walls, became Officers of the merit (ONZM).
For services to film, Porirua producer and director Cheryl Cameron was made a Member of the NZ Order of Merit (MNZM), an award also received by veteran broadcaster Roger Gascoigne for services to the media.
Queen’s Service Medals (QSM) were awarded to Margaret Armour, organiser of Porirua’s Festival of the Elements; Robert Cater, co-founder of the Porirua Community Arts Council and Pataka Art Museum; Upper Hutt music teacher, Clare Derby, who has taught piano for 51 years, and David Howan for his 60 years’ service to brass bands and the Salvation Army in Wellington.
