Body of weather
Performance artist and producer Sascha Perfect returns to Wellington with a new work inspired by Japanese Butoh dance.
Chimera is a meditative dance piece inspired by the paintings of New York artist Martin Whittfooth and performed in a style of dance called Body Weather. The style was founded by Japanese dancer Min Tanaka and explores the intersections of bodies and their environment.
“Bodies are not conceived as fixed and separate entities,” Perfect explains. “Like the weather bodies are constantly changing.”
She says in Chimera the audience will experience a non-rational world where bodies shape shift from human to animal.
The show features live music by violinist composer Chris Prosser and a soundtrack by Alex Mitcalfe Wilson, aka Snowfield.
Chimera, Whitieria Theatre, 7.30pm, July 17 and 18.
