City of carnivals
The Creative Capital Arts Trust (CCAT) replaces the Fringe Arts Trust and the Cuba Street Carnival Collective Trust and will be chaired by Infratil Executive Tim Brown.
A start-up grant of $70,000 from Creative New Zealand has been received and Wellington City Council has agreed to transfer the support it previously committed to the Fringe Festival, $85,000 annually, for the 2011-2013 festivals.
Tim Brown says the first task of the new trust will be to deliver the 22nd Fringe Festival which will be held from February 10 to March 3 2012. The festival will return to a three week programme and see the return of popular Fringe Awards.
No date has yet been set for the Cuba Street Carnival. The carnival, dubbed New Zealand’s largest, was cancelled last year due to a lack of funding.
