“Christopher really stood out from the candidates. Having such an experienced and impressive New Zealander at the helm is good for our national orchestra and for New Zealand arts,” says Donald Best, chairman of the NZSO.
Blake will begins in February 2012 for a term of five years.
Adding to the comings and goings on the cultural scene is the resignation of Diana Marsh as General Manager of Vector Wellington Orchestra after two years in the role.
“I’ve been dedicated to strengthening the orchestra’s financial position so it can continue to meet the needs of the Wellington region,” she explains, “Now the orchestra is in a strong position for the future and the importance of it in Wellington is undeniable.”
Marsh lead the orchestra through a difficult time, when funding from Creative New Zealand was under threat.
