Dress up, cash in
The $25,000 prize money is split among several categories including those for individuals and groups, males and females, as well as $10,000 for a supreme winner. There is also a Creative Wellington prize for the costume that best captures the essence of Wellington.
Publicist Rebecca Reed says Parkin spoke to Mayor Celia Wade-Brown in 2010 with the idea of giving back to the fans who have traditionally made stellar efforts with their costumes.
“He wanted to entice them even more to ‘go hard,’” says Reed.
Reed says it is too early to say whether the competition will be back in 2013. The winners will be announced on field at the Sevens on Saturday, February 4. Register online at www.hertzsevens.co.nz.
