Get the kids into space
At the Carter Observatory visitors can witness and feel a rocket launch and touch a real piece of Moon rock at a new exhibition celebrating Wellington-born space scientist Sir William Pickering. An immersive space module will also allow kids to go on “mini-missions” to different planets and discover what living and working in space is like. And a new planetarium show on Sunday and Wednesday mornings follows Tycho the dog in his space kennel, out into the space and beyond.
At St Mary of the Angels a workshop with a difference will allow children aged eight to 12 tell the ancient story of Orpheus on October 15. Children will begin the day by learning the story through drama, music and movement, in time to present a 30 minute story to parents and guardians at 4pm.
Te Papa celebrates the holidays with the Indian community in a series of events as part of the Diwali Festival of Lights. Children’s workshops will explore henna hand painting and Indian mask painting while there will be Indian shadow puppet and Manipuri dance shows in Soundings Theatre.
Other theatre these holidays includes The Hare and the Tortoise on at 4 Moncrieff Street, Puss in Boots at the Gryphon Theatre, Songs of the Sea at Capital E and Spaced Out with The Improvisors at Circa Theatre.
