Happy police
“With only five arrests and 11 evictions, we were very pleased with crowd behaviour,” said RWC Operation Commander Inspector Simon Perry, who added that the cooler weather did not dampen the spirit of the crowd.
Wellington Police have said they want locals and visitors alike to enjoy what Wellington has to offer during the Cup, but to do so in a safe, controlled way.
“We urge those heading into the city to drink responsibly and look after themselves and their mates,” says Perry.
Locals have noticed extra breath testing stations nabbing intoxicated drivers in and around Wellington at night time on game days, with one man being breath tested twice driving from Mount Victoria to Aro Valley on Saturday night.
“Most incidents during the Cup have simply been cases of people over-indulging in alcohol,” Perry says.
The next Wellington game is France against Tonga on October 1.
