Insider's Guide - Lily Chalmers
“I wanted to showcase the amazing musical talent in this city for families who don’t get to see bands very often because they’ve got kids,” says Lily, “Kids and parents can enjoy the same music.”
Lily also finds the time to get around town, and Tane comes too…
Best breakfast… Maranui in Lyall Bay. I love any opportunity to be by the sea.
Best lunch… Arthur’s on Cuba Street for the best fish fingers.
Best dinner… a selection of yummy tapas at Havana.
Favourite for coffee… a flat white at Peoples Coffee in Newtown.
Best value meal, approx $25… tacos at La Boca Loca in Miramar.
Best buy for under $50… high tea for two at Martha’s Pantry. I love their sweet treats.
Favourite place to party… now that I have a child I have to make my own dance party fun, so we listen to The Jewel School on Radioactive on Saturday nights, there’s always a house party.
Favourite walk… Mt Vic, great for dogs and kids.
Favourite activity… Wellington Zoo.
Best day trip… Lower Hutt. Shopping in Petone, then lunch and art at The Dowse.
Must do – money no object… Logan Brown for dinner and on to Havana for drinks and dancing.
Must-buy gift… a plaited leather handbag from Iko Iko and some Dollop, Wellington’s own natural hair product.
Tip for the parents… In town with kids the best changing spots are Little League in Newtown, Te Papa, The Dowse and the library.
