More ado about Shakespeare
Much Ado About Nothing may not be seen much on main stages, but it proved popular with students at the recent Wellington Regional University of Otago Sheila Winn Shakespeare Festival.
Wellington East Girls’ College presented scenes from the play in the style of a Gypsy wedding, while pupils from Onslow College dressed in simple attire with the actors linked by a long piece of elastic. Both schools will represent Wellington at the national festival. Organiser Dawn Sanders says because of the number of schools participating, a third group was also selected, pupils from Queen Margaret’s College who presented scenes from Richard III.
This year is the 21st anniversary of the festival and over the years more than 85,000 students from throughout the country have participated.
The SGNZ national festival will be held at Wellington East Girls’ College over Queen’s Birthday weekend.
