New hand on the camera
The purchase of the New Zealand Film and Television School is a strategic investment according to the school’s new owner Whitireia New Zealand Ltd.
The Porirua based training institution bought the school, which has operated as a private training establishment since 2000, to complement its “arts hub” in the capital.
“The school will complement our programmes in the arts, says Whitireia group chief executive Don Campbell. “It will provide an important strategic addition to the Whitireia arts hub with our performance centre and media training centre in Wellington City.
Campbell says the change in ownership will not affect on the way the school operates and the one year Certificate in Film and Television Production programme will continue.
“The Film and Television School location, brand and campus will be retained. Whitireia is also committed to retaining the strong industry relationships that the film school has built up and the existing partnerships that are a feature of their success.”
Campbell says the school currently offers tertiary education to around 50 students a year.
The purchase of the school by Whitireia comes at the same time as the training provider undertakes a $16.5 million refurbishment of its Porirua campus which is on track for completion early next year.
