Oh to be a Hobbit
Whitireia music student Dylan Brown, 21, will be among the crowds queuing outside Belmont Hall this weekend. Although he’s never read The Hobbit himself, his older brother Kerry has told him the whole story, and he’s a Tolkien fanatic after reading Lord of the Rings.
“I’m not into fantasy but I’m into Lord of the Rings,” says Brown, “When the first movie came out I was captivated by the adventure and obsessed by it. I’ve got a massive collection of Lord of the Rings toys.”
Brown also had a teacher at high school that was a rider of Rohan in Lord of the Rings and the stories of being on set inspired Brown to try out as an extra this time around.
He has no acting experience and the thought of being handed a script makes him nervous, but he says he’s going to give it his best shot.
“I don’t know what to expect. I’m going to get there early and queue with a friend. I’m pretty sure there will be a lot of dead keen people camping out.
Audition hopefuls must be over 16.
The Hobbit casting call, Belmont Hall, 1-4pm, January 28.
