Residents speak on city’s future
The Wellington 2040 City Strategy invited residents to have their say on the future development of Wellington over the next 30 years. Submissions closed last Friday.
While only 115 formal submissions have been received a council spokesman said a “truckload” of comments had been collected on-line and from the 6,000 people who visited the 2040 promotional stands.
Transport was the major issue raised by respondents with support for light rail in the central city and strong opposition to the proposed flyover at the Basin Reserve. People also wanted a greener city and there was support for community gardens. A couple of submissions were critical of the amount of chewing gum on inner city streets.
There is still opportunity for people to be heard with the council now calling for verbal submissions
