Songs From the Bottom of a Hilltop

Sven Olsen's Brutal Canadian Love Saga

Misery never sounded so good. The Svens are a 16 piece Lyall Bay collective that performs with five singers and a string section. Their folk, pop and country love songs are set on the sunless, luckless  slopes of Wellington. This show is sure to appeal to anyone who has drunk 8 pints of beer and run up Plimmer steps with a broken heart.  The band’s breakthrough single, the 10 minute Chairman of the Wool Board’s Daughter, was picked by Grant Smithies as a highlight of this year’s Nature’s Worst alternative music compilation. File under hilarious gloom.
