Up close and personal
Add a third night to Miriam Margolyes’ Wellington line-up. On top of two performances of her show Dickens’ Women at The Opera House, the actress will be putting on a fundraising show for the Jewish Community Centre. The evening of stories, poems, memories and jokes will include audience participation and discussion.
Best known for performances in the Harry Potter series and Blackadder, the BAFTA Award-winning actress has a strong interest in British-Jewish genealogy, which is how Jewish Community Centre member Nigel Isaacs met her. “I asked if she’d be so kind and she was so kind,” says Isaacs, who describes the show as a more personal evening with the actress. “It’s an unashamed fundraiser.” Copies of the book Dickens’ Women, written by Margolyes and Sonia Fraser, will be for sale.
Miriam Margolyes, Jewish Community Centre, 7pm, May 21, $45.
