Wellington needs government

Wellington might be disadvantaged by the Government’s $300million cost cutting plans, says Wellington Employer’s Chamber of Commerce’s Ken Harris.
The business group believes that government spending cuts could be bad for our city, and government could be so involved with Auckland projects and the rebuilding of Christchurch that Wellington  infrastructure might be neglected.
Harris points out that Wellington is the centre of New Zealand and needs good road links to the Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay as well as Wanganui and Taranaki.  He believes that it is just as urgent to get a decent link to Wellington airport as to complete the Transmission Gully highway project.
His group wants local businesses to have a chance to compete as suppliers for expensive government software and services instead of the government buying it from supposedly less risky international firms.
He see more firms willing to hire and invest with a stable government  adding that he wants the country to become more wealthy and to achieve that he wants the government to ease Resource Management Act  limitations.
He says you need surplus wealth to be a green nation, , … and for responsible environmental practice you must first be a prosperous nation.
