FIVE of the region’s top chefs have returned home after creating a flavour-filled fortnight for the people of Melbourne.
More than 2,000 Melburnians were treated to the Wellington region’s best cuisine at the WLG pop up restaurant in Melbourne’s Fitzroy district. The promotion saw diners enjoy a $35 three course meal including Cook Strait hapuka, Wairarapa lamb and Regal Salmon washed down with Tuatara and Moa beer and wines from some 20 vineyards from Marlborough, Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay.
Positively Wellington Tourism marketing manager, Sarah Meikle, says WLG served up a little taste of what the Capital had to offer and encouraged Australians to now go and check it out for themselves.
“We want Australians to choose Wellington as their next stop for a short break,” Meikle says.
The promotion reached an audience of over nine million Australians through news, blogs and social media, she says.
Direct visitor arrivals into Wellington from New South Wales increased ten percent following the first WLG pop up restaurant promotion held in Sydney last year.
