The Green Man, corner Victoria and Willeston Streets.

SERVICE at The Green Man pub is fantastic. The atmosphere is lively. The food is supreme.
I was welcomed out of the rain by one of The Green Man’s lovely waitresses who instantly made us feel at home.
She helpfully recommended great dishes and I couldn’t resist the allure of a Bento Box to start with. With a selection of chicken drummos, garlic prawn cutlet rolls, salt and pepper squid, garlic bread, wedges and mini bbq meatball topped off with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce, it contained all my favourites – in a box.
The garlic prawn cutlet rolls were particularly delicious. Covered in a light crunch, they were complemented by my not-so-secret obsession – sweet chilli sauce.
The hostess recommended the house red, Five Flax Pinot Gris, and after the first bite of my market fish main, I decided it was the perfect accompaniment.
Atop a bed of buttery Irish crushed potato, the melt-in-your-mouth Tarakihi was finished with a pernod and dill cream sauce, and a semi-roast Roma tomato.
Light enough to savour, but large enough to satisfy a hungry tummy, the fish was heaven on a plate.
My date thoroughly enjoyed his Cajun chicken breast, and said the lime and coriander salsa was a perfect partner to the spicy Cajun finish.
We decided to take a short break before dessert, and relaxed to the sound of the talented house band – along with others in the packed and obviously very popular restaurant.
And then came the finale. A lovely slab of warmed French chocolate cake drizzled with chocolate sauce and a scoop of ice cream. “What more could you want?” we thought.
