Season of concerts

Building on a long history of lunchtime concerts at St Andrew’s on The Terrace, the organisers hope to recreate the buzz and camaraderie of previous festivals.
The NZ International Arts Festival does not have as many musical concerts as many would have liked, so the organisers of this series, Richard Greager and Marjan Van Waardenberg, saw a musical niche that could be filled.
With the many professional musicians in all genres resident in Wellington there was an opportunity to prepare for the interesting array of concerts on offer.
Both are well used to putting concert seasons together. Tenor Greager was instrumental in the presentation of the artistically successful Martinborough Music Festivals in 1997 and 1998, and Van Waardenberg organises and coordinates the regular St Andrew’s lunchtime concerts throughout the year.
The St Andrew’s concerts are independent of the festival but complement them. Most tastes are catered for from Baroque and Classical string quartets to ensembles, Jazz to Kletzmer, piano to solo violins, wind octets to tangos.
The 20 concerts, March 8-19 (12.15pm and 6.30pm).
