Why not the Basin too?

The plan, prematurely leaked to media last week, would see Buckle Street being lowered using a covered trench design. A landscaped Memorial Park would sit on top of it.
Local residents have been quick to point out that the design is similar to that proposed by the Architectural Centre as an alternative to the Basin flyover, which was quickly rejected as “too expensive” by the New Zealand Transport Agency.
“We’ve known for some time that the government was considering this [for Memorial Park], but they’re keeping tight-lipped on it,” says Wellington City Councillor Iona Pannett. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the money did go through.”
She says the announcement is expected in the May annual budget.
