Storm Trooper Shane Cornwell.

Storm Trooper Shane Cornwell.

SHANE Cornwell has dressed as a Star Wars Storm Trooper for four years, and attended eight Armageddon Expos.
He’s watched all original Star Wars movies at least 20 times “for enjoyment and research”.
As a member of Outpost 42, a group of Star Wars fans who organise a stand at Armageddon Expo each year promoting the films and their charity work, Cornwell dons a $2,500 Storm Trooper suit (that includes an under suit that keeps you warm in the cold and cool in the heat).
Outpost 42 references New Zealand’s geographical location – Latitude 42 South.
Cornwell fell in love with the original films when he was seven after seeing them in Wellington at the Majestic Theatre with his older brother.
“I was in awe. My imagination ran wild.”
Cornwell’s mum then bought him the film soundtrack plus a C3PO mask and Storm Trooper and Darth Vader figurines.
When he told his mum he had joined Outpost 72 as an adult, she wasn’t surprised.
Cornwell joins TV and movie stars, international cartoon voices, the latest gaming displays, comics trading cards and collectables, live wrestling, pillow fighting , the Cosplay costume contest, and food eating challenges at Armageddon Expo, TSB Bank Arena, 12pm-5pm, April 2-4.

Alien vs Predator; OK Freddy vs Jason; OK BUT Star Trek vs Dr Who; ah, no OK. From a truly geeky point of view, a couple dressed as Spock and Uhura spotted pushing a Dalek through Newtown is not a good cross-over.
