Captain Aaron was the star of a winning Wellington walking initiative.

A local group of Lycra enthusiasts has picked up a national award for promoting safe streets.
Cycle Aware Wellington (CAW) has been rewarded for its “Cruise the Waterfront” campaign and video, nabbing the top award in the Best Walking Promotion category at the Golden Foot Awards last weekend.
The awards showcase walking innovations throughout the country, and are run by Living Streets Aotearoa.
CAW member Claire Pascoe is thrilled, but feels much work still remains to make Wellington a cycle friendly city.
“Awards like this are really important because organisations such as ours don’t get paid for their work,” she says.
Pascoe joined CAW three years ago, after coming back from overseas and feeling shocked at how New Zealand biking facilities compared to those found in Melbourne and Europe.
“Since then improvements have been made but we are still a long way behind cities such as Melbourne which should be a role model for Wellington. There you can cycle into the city on a cycle lane without meeting a car on the way”.
Recent cycle improvements in the Capital include a new clearway for cyclists along
 Thorndon quay, says Pascoe.
Angle parking at Oriental Bay and improving the shared path on the Hutt Road are some of the issues that CAW are keen to see improved in the coming months.
