Reduce, Reuse, Freecycle
The Freecycle Network is a worldwide green initiative with over 7.5 million users – all advertising the things they no longer want, or the things they’re keen to snap up for free.
Catherine Hatfield of Lower Hutt is offering up the fashion magazines, and says the incentive for her to use the service is that she’d “prefer to see things with life left in them used by someone else rather than going to a landfill.”
One self-confessed Wellington “hoarder” has been begged by her partner to clear out her possessions, but has only agreed if she can see them placed in loving hands.
These statements echo the mission statement of the Freecycle Network – to keep good, working objects out of landfills and to enable an increasingly globalised population some of the benefits of living within a community.
All you need to do is log on, sign up and wait for the offers to start rolling in.
The only catch is that objects tend to get snapped up quickly, so if you see something you want you need to be able to grab it immediately.
