The centre is getting interactive displays – similar to those at Te Papa and the new animal hospital at Wellington Zoo.
Locales – a finalist in the New Zealand Museum Awards for its colossal squid interactives and website – has won the contract for the $300,000 revamp.
The new look will replace the traditional rows of brochures; instead you’ll see lots of pictures, and ways to make up your own itinerary.
“It’s going to be very much Wellingtoncentric,” says Positively Wellington Tourism chief executive David Perks. “So people can see more, do more, spend more.” And it should be ready by December 12.
Wellington’s tourism contributes $1.4 billion to the region’s economy. That’s 10 percent of the capital’s regional domestic product.
