IT’S competition time for home sewers and their blinging new bras.
Wellington designer and The Fashion Workshop sewing teacher Jenny Deonarain organised the Bling My Bra competition. One of her ideas, pictured, was a bra decorated with home sewing materials, like paper patterns, tape measures and bobbins.
Deonarain asked Wellington sewers to “have a bit of fun and do something creative” for a competition not unlike the Montana World of WearableArt Awards Show bizarre bra section, but targeted at home sewers rather than designers.
Entrants paid $10 to enter the competition, all of which goes to the Breast Cancer Foundation, a cause Deonarain wants to support.
“Everyone knows someone who’s had it and because most of my sewing students are women, it’s important to them.”
Prizes include a sewing machine or overlocker, fabric bundles, books and sewing class vouchers.
All bras can be seen at The Southern Cross on November 15, where you can vote for your favourite.
