HER business card reads “Kura Scott – Love facilitator”.
The accompanying picture, a sweet, curly-haired cupid shot dead in the back with an arrow, suggests the whole thing might be a bit tongue-in-cheek.
“It is a bit of a joke really,” says Scott. “I’ve always liked matchmaking people and playing cupid. If friends of mine wanted to meet someone they’d always tell me, and I’d facilitate it.”
Scott’s real job is in film production, and she asks for no payment for her love ‘services’.
“My payment comes from successfully introducing people.”
An Internet ad offering cheap business cards propelled Scott towards making her natural inclination more official.
While the love-maker wants you to know there’s an element of humour to her latest endeavour, it’s not all joking around either.
“Since I started handing out the cards I’ve been waking up to emails and texts. It sounds so ridiculous, but I got 500 cards printed and I have 40 left.”
The matchmaking process begins when Scott hands someone her business card. She’ll often take the opportunity to do an on-the-spot assessment, asking about his or her interests and figuring out “what their style is”.
“More than anything they have to be open to new experiences. I’m not guaranteeing I’ll find them love, but it’s definitely an opportunity to meet different people.”
Scott then gets a group of potentially compatible people together over coffee or a drink, and lets any initial sparks take place in this casual environment.
She admits that calling the project a joke may be a way of justifying actions that are a little out of the ordinary.
“I’m the ultimate hopeless romantic behind closed doors. It’s a hobby more than a career, but I’ll actively pursue it until I’m on my deathbed. Even then I’ll probably be facilitating the lady next to me.”
As further evidence that Scott is more serious about matchmaking than she admits, she says she’s just put in her application to become a wedding celebrant.
“It’s quite a process to go through. There’re lots of boxes to be ticked. But I’ll get there.”
When her last 40 cards are gone, will Scott be getting more printed?
“Absolutely. They’re amazing cards.” She laughs. “Someone suggested I get car magnets and coffee mugs too.”
In case you’re wondering, Scott has yet to find her own match.
“I’m too busy looking for everybody else, but I have met heaps of people in the process,” she says, before adding: “What about you? Are you single?”
There’s no stopping this one.
