Miramar South School pupils sing their hearts out on Lambton Quay.

MIRAMAR South School doesn’t do a school fair, instead the choir sings.
The vocally strong choir sung their hearts out during lunchtime on Lambton Quay and Manners Mall last week, and business people stopped in their tracks to look and listen and enjoy the big smiles.
Deputy principal and choir leader Kyran Smith says her students have natural ability, although she confesses her musical ability is lacking.
“They just get up there and do it. We’re celebrating the talent they’ve got and because we have no school fair this is our version of a gala,” she says.
“We want to share their talents with the wider community. People sometimes aren’t aware how multicultural Miramar is.”
The lunchtime audience included Green MP Catherine Delahunty who has watched the choir four times in the street. “I just love it. They are so creative,” she says.
“It’s a shame that schools have to fundraise on the street but these guys do it in style.”
Smith says the school chose to sing rather than host a fair because it’s a good way to draw money from a community that can afford it. And really people are genuinely impressed,” she adds.
The choir raised $1467.30 last Wednesday. They plan to keep singing round the city till Christmas. Enjoy them.
