Caution: sculptors at work
9/02/2011 10:05:00 a.m.
The creamy-coloured Oamaru limestone, quarried at Weston, near Oamaru in Otago down south, is quite soft and a popular material for sculpting. The Trust hopes two-week event will engage both young and old and promote the appreciation of the distinctly New Zealand stone art. You can see the artists at work every day down on Ilott Green just off Civic Square.
Soft as Stone Sculpture Symposium, Illot Green, corner of Harris Street and Jervois Quay, 8am-8pm, February 5-20. Exhibition opening, Illot Green, 7.30pm, February 16.
