Lovely week ahead

Take a romantic walk.

Take a romantic walk.

LOVE is in the air so Capital Times gives you a run-down on some alternative love-themed events happening this weekend, before the big day on Monday, February 14.
Every year on Valentine’s Day the Harbour Capital Chorus and Vocal FX Chorus raise funds by offering singing telegrams for your Valentine. For the past 12 years they have been singing a mixture of traditional love songs, and some personal choices, to loved ones all the way from Upper Hutt to the city. Singing a mixture of traditional romantic tunes the non-profit making chorus singers “do it for the love of it”, says singer Steve Currington.
“It’s great. And we offer chocolates too if you wish,” Currington says. The singers have seen everything from proposals in cafes to bank tellers bursting into tears when their quartets pass on a message of love, he says. Every Valentine’s Day, for four years, they would get a call from one particular husband until one year the call never came, and sadly, later they found out that the romantic caller’s wife had passed away. To book, call: (04) 479 6327 or email: singingvalentines@hcc.org.nz.
If you feel like going for a romantic walk then on February 13 the public gets its first opportunity to visit Baring Head – the latest addition to greater Wellington’s regional parks network.
Located on Wainuiomata’s coast Baring Head lies between Wellington Harbour and Palliser Bay, the day begins with a powhiri at 9.30am, and you can take a guided walk round the 284-hectare property, cycle your sweetheart up to the lighthouse, or have a picnic by the river. Visit: www.gw.govt.nz/baring-head for more information.
To top your night off, take the love of your life out for a romantic dinner. Capital Times suggests Maria Pia’s Trattoria in Thorndon who are laying on a special feast to mark the occasion. The seductive sounds of Gypsy-Jazz duo Tandrom, with Fiona Smythe on violin and Simon Burgess on Manouche guitar and vocals, will be wandering through the homely Italian restaurant during dinner.
Happy Valentine’s Day Wellington.
