Yank in training
There’s nothing more satisfying than conquering Mt. Victoria, my quadriceps swelling with pain and enjoyment, and at the end, the exhilarating sprint to the water’s edge.
If you haven’t been waking up 5.30am each day to train for this year’s AMI Round the Bays fun run, don’t sweat it, just do it anyway. This is something for everyone in Wellington.
Not everyone can be Ned Whitman. I am from America after all and I am training for the 7km AMI Round the Bays run on February 20. Kiwis, get ready because an eagle is about to land.
Training is hard for many but purely enjoyable for me. I’ve managed to run, by pure accident, parts of the AMI Round the Bays racecourse. I take every opportunity to run around the harbour. The views are just stunning.
The occasional spray of mist only scratches the surface of my satisfaction in running around Scorching Bay and its surrounding areas.
I’m not expecting the race to be too difficult as I normally run 7km on a daily basis but I have been doing some extra work at the gym in preparation. There’s nothing like sweat to make you feel good about yourself.
So run or walk among thousands at the annual AMI Round the Bays. The 7km fun run and half-marathon starts at Frank Kitts Park and ends at Kilbirnie Park though the half-marathon has an extended course.
Come out this Sunday, and if you see an eagle flying by, make way.
There will be live entertainment and food at the race’s finish, and if you want to let loose and break it down after the jog, King Kapisi will perform at the after party.
AMI Round the Bays, Frank Kitts Park, 8.30am for the half-marathon, 9.20 for the 7km, February 20.
