THE New Zealand Fringe Festival should get one of those odd keys that people get in those coming of age rites. It launches its 21st season on February 18.
Traditionally, turning 21 means that you are considered old enough to be a key holder to your family home, and symbolically you now hold a senior position in the family. So, the Fringe is officially ‘senior’. Each week, Capital Times will highlight the Fringe Festival events – both old and young - plus some of our own picks.
The Rock Paper Scissors Battle takes place around the city on March 5 but you must register by February 25 to join the other 99 competitors in the one-day battle.
Opening onto the waterfront eight shipping containers contain eight artists in The Performance Arcade at Taranaki Wharf, February 25-28, and a peek-a-boo blonde, femme-fatale Hollywood icon moves from glamour to anonymity in Drowning in Veronica Lake at Ivy in the Garden Club from February 22-25. The show tells the story of 1940’s film star Veronica Lake’s tragically self destructive life - her meteoric rise to stardom and subsequent fall from grace.
If you fancy a theatrical trip away on a boat then Quarantine: as performed by the inmates on Somes Island is the show for you. Extended, due to popular demand, it now runs on February 17, 25 and March 4, 5.
