Parking blues
Mobility parks in Island Bay, Newtown and on Grey Street in the central city have been painted blue with a giant wheelchair emblem painted in yellow on top of the blue background.
Cr Stephanie Cook says it’s hoped the initiative will mean fewer people parking illegally in the mobility parks.
“I would imagine there’s nothing worse for people looking or a park to find someone illegally parked in the spot they need for greater accessibility,” Cook says. “Painting them blue will help make the parks more visible.”
The new colour scheme for mobility parks is part of a trial and if successful all 120 mobility parks in the city will be painted bright blue.
Capital Times questions how brightly mobility parks need to be painted in order to assist blind motorists find their spot.
