Maori writer’s residency
The Tau Mai e Kapiti Maori Writer’s Residency is funded by Te Waka Toi/Creative New Zealand and hosted by the Kaitiaki o Kapiti Trust. It allows a Maori writer to live and work on Kapiti Island for eight weeks.
Trust spokesperson Minnie Clark says the trust was looking for applications from a new group of writers from all genres.
“The idea is that the writer gets a chance to hear some of the stories of the island, historical and contemporary, and to create their own writing in this extraordinary natural environment.”
Former writers in residence have included Paora Tibble, Kelly Joseph and Nuki Takao.
The closing date for applications is July 15 with the residency commencing in September.
