Baby Pops Once Upon a Time
Vector Wellington Orchestra, Baby Pops Once Upon a Time, Conductor: Marc Taddei, Michael Fowler Centre June 26, Reviewed by Garth Wilshere
THIS concert is now an annual event
that also tours to Masterton and Palmerston North, and with pre-concert face
painting and many kids dressed up in costume the young audience, parents and
grandparents lapped it up.
With pre-concert face painting and many kids dressed up in costume they entered
into the spirit of it all with gusto.
Murray the Musical Bear came on with some interactive fun, the Sugar Plum Fairy
danced to her music and Marc Taddei gave a conducting lesson. Snippets of
Greig’s Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt and other pieces introduced them to music. They did get a
little restless given their average age was probably barely four perhaps the
orchestra should get to musical educator Thomas Goss’s fun retelling of the
Maui story sooner.
Everyone joined in for Tutira Mai and
at the end the kids lined up for something they clearly love, the walk through
the orchestra to a selection of rousing marches.
All the kids around me were excited, excitable and enthusiastic, and despite
tiring a little, they loved it.
