13 Most Beautiful, Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests, Town Hall, reviewed by Garth Wilshere

WHAT a fascinating look inside the cinema images From Warhol at the Silver Factory in New York circa 1964–66.
The 13 Screen Tests chosen are a cross-section of the strange and beautiful people who occupied his world. The black and white, silent, full face-on clips are a revealing look at the individual characters.
Well remembered images include a sullen Lou Reed sipping from a Coke bottle, no doubt a steady gaze behind his trademark shades, Nico full of her mysterious beauty, and a young Dennis Hopper with a forthright gaze.
The exquisite Edie Sedgwick, Paul America and Billy Name were also captured.
The flickering images often seemed poignant and sad, while others were full of life with hints of confidence and cockiness. What mesmerising images.
New Zealand born couple Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips provided vocals and played guitar, bass and keyboards. They wrote most of the songs, but played Bob Dylan’s I’ll keep it With Mine written for Nico to go with her test, and  the Velvet’s Not a Young Man Anymore to go with Reed. The sound picture and vocal styling was resonant and reminiscent of the Underground and Reed.
Instrumentally they were terrific and the vocals just right.
